Utah's Road to Statehood

Salt Lake County Memorial Requesting Women's Suffrage 18 March 1895 memorial reminding the president and members of the constitutional convention that women of the Territory of Utah "are at present deprived of the privileges of American Citizenship, and the right of suffrage... pay taxes for the support of the municipal and territorial government exactly the same as male citizens... nor are we allowed a voice or vote in the levying or expenditure of such taxes nor in making the laws by which we are governed." The document is signed by Ellen B. Ferguson, president, Elizabeth Macfarlane, and Mary E. Irvine (Utah State Archives and Records Service).
