Scope and Content
With the creation of the State Engineer position in 1897, the office was tasked with certain mandated responsibilities directly connected to regulating Utah's water supply. Among these core administrative duties first tasked to the State Engineer was the maintenance of stream measurement records throughout the state. This series contains the surviving data that was originally compiled and maintained as part of that mandate.
Researchers can expect to find raw data figures of stream measurements, correspondence between the State Engineer and individuals in the field taking actual measurements, records on stream measurement data shared between the State Engineer and the U.S. Geological Survey, and a variety of pre-printed forms upon which stream measurement data was captured and recorded.
