Scope and Content

This series contains copies of ordinances and resolutions passed by the city council. Ordinances have the effect of law and govern a variety of activities in the city, including business licensing, sale of liquor, building codes, zoning, and regulations of streets, sewers, etc. In some cases ordinances are created to address important city business, such as the adoption of annual budgets. Resolutions are used to create city policy, formalize decisions, and make formal statements of opinion.

The series also includes a number of proclamations, typically statements designating a day or week to honor a particular activity or aspect of community life.

Custody History

The City of Eureka transferred the records in this series dating from 1901 and 1925-2013 to the State Archives in 2015.

When records in this series came to the State Archives in 2015 it was apparent that records were incomplete. In addition to the fact that there were no ordinances or resolutions for the period between 1914-1925, I appeared that some were missing in other years as well.

Records in this series dating from 1893-2013 were archivally processed by Alan Barnett in May 2016.
