Scope and Content
Utah Code states that upon presentation, the county recorder shall record honorable discharges from the military, naval, or marine service of the United States, and any orders, citations, and decorations of honor relating to a person while in the military service of the United States. County recorders' copies are considered evidence with the same effect as the original (Utah code, 17-21-14, 2000). Military discharges contain a wide range of personal information, as well as military service and discharge information. Most veterans had their discharges recorded soon after discharge. However, since a veteran could bring his discharge for recording at any time, years might elapse between the time of discharge and recording. This is particularly true for World War I veterans whose discharges are scattered throughout this series.
Military discharges contain the following possible information: name, military serial number, grade, date and place of discharge, name of discharging officer, mailing address, date and place of birth, date of induction, race, marital status, occupation, education, character notes and physical description, immunization record, military decorations, citations and awards, military campaigns participated in, special skills, pay and insurance data, travel allowances and destinations, and notes on physical condition at the time of discharge.
Arrangement
For records created from 1946 to 1952, arrangement is alphabetical..
During the World War II period, the Sevier County recorder arranged military discharges in alphabetical order, but later stopped alphabetizing them. In Books A and B, which were recorded 1942-1945 and 1946-1952, respectively, the recorder grouped discharges alphabetically. In Book C, recorded 1952-1970, she simply filed them in the order recorded.

In Books A and B page numbering begins anew for each letter of the alphabet.
