Scope and Content

This series contains books used to record criminal and civil cases heard by the Fillmore Precinct justice court. They include the names of the parties involved, the action taken, the names of the attorneys, the name of the justice of the peace, the type of papers filed, and the judgments rendered. The docket dating from 1876 to 1883 includes record of about ten marriages as well.

Each docket includes space for an index at the beginning of the book, but in some cases the index portion was not used. The later books include a ledger column to keep track of the costs associated with each case is printed on each page. For many of the cases dating from 1901-1944 documents from the cases have been filed in the book. These includes such documents as complaints, summons, arrest warrants, and receipts for fines.

Custody History

After the precinct was eliminated in a reorganization of the justice courts in Millard County the records dating from 1901-1934 were transferred to the county clerk, who transferred them to the State Archives in 1988. The docket dating from 1876-1883 came into the possession of the Fillmore City Recorder at some point in time. It was microfilmed by the State Archives in 2015 and the Recorder transferred the original to the Archives for preservation.
