Historical Note

An agency history is available.

Scope and Content

The Washington County recorder created an index to notices of location, which provides access by the name of locator or claimant. It indicates kind of document, entry number, date of the document and of recording, and the book and page number where recorded. It also includes the name of the claim (or grantor), and the mining district in which the claim was located.

Arrangement

Alphabetical, thereunder chronological.

Entries in the mining notices index are arranged alphabetically and thereunder chronologically. Entries for many letters have been carried forward in blank space available at the end of entries for a different letter.

Research Note

This index was created on preprinted index sheets labeled, "Index to Mining Record-Direct." The first column lists grantee and the second grantor or claim name. Half way through the pages change to "Index to Mining Record-Inverse," and the first two columns are reversed. Even though the format changes, this is a grantee or locator index all the way through.
