Series 5285
Weber County (Utah). County Commission School system records
Dates: 1880-1917.
These records are housed in the Utah State Archives' permanent storage room.
Scope and Content
This series contains a variety of Weber School District records created between 1880 and 1917 related to county school system issues that came before the County Commission. Documents include petitions, resolutions, boundary descriptions, superintendent reports, minute meeting excerpts, letters, and financial reports. Most of the records surround a district merger, mainly between 1903-1905. There were 18 school districts within Weber County, which were being proposed to be consolidated into larger districts, named School District No. 1 and School District No. 2. Some of the smaller districts and locals didn't want the new boundaries and consolidation to take effect, at the opposition of the Superintendent of Weber County Schools, W. B. Wilson, who created the proposition to increase property values. Some residents, however, were in favor of combining the smaller districts because of unequally distributed school funds.
