Scope and Content
This series contains books used to document the daily proceedings of the court. Minute book entries do not include transcripts of court cases, but outline the various business handled by the court. The business may include such matters as jury selection, judicial appointments, expense claims, as well as actions taken in various cases. The hearing of a case typically spans multiple dates and the records include notes of the various parts of the case, including an indictment or filed complaint, procedural issues, presentation of the case, witnesses' names, the verdict, and precise sentencing or settlement.

Research Note
More detailed information for the 2nd District Court may be found in case files, transcripts, commitment records, and information and indictment records. Blotters provide the minutes in an abbreviated fashion. Judgment books and civil case decisions record the outcome of cases. Naturalization books show further documentation of naturalizations. For appeals to the district courts the lower court records should be checked, as should the supreme court for appeals from the district courts. Registers of action can be used to identify the specific dates for actions recorded in these minute books.

Custody History
Books B - Q were left behind in the Davis County offices when the District Court moved to its own facility. Davis County transferred those volumes, dating from 1909 to 1975 to the State Archives in February 2020.
Access Restrictions
This series is primarily classified as Public. The secondary classification is Exempt: The books in this series include references to adoptions. Because adoptions are sealed for 100 years after birth, any information about an adoption is considered restricted for the same time period. (Utah Code 78-30-15).
