Scope and Content
This series consists of files containing the ordinances and a handful of resolutions passed by the Bingham Canyon Town Board (1904-1938) and Bingham Canyon City Council (1938-1971). This series documents the history of the laws of Bingham Canyon over the entire existence of the municipality. Included in the series is the text of the ordinance or resolution, accompanied by the names of the council or board members voting for the ordinance or resolution, the date of passage, and certification of the passage by the Town or City Clerk. Topics include regulation of traffic and parking, budgets, sanitation measures, official salaries, occupational licenses, and other matters within the jurisdiction of the municipal government. The series also includes a copy of the "Revised Ordinances of 1930" and a few proofs of publication.
Arrangement
This series is arranged by document type; thereunder, numerically by ordinance number. This includes, first, the ordinances from the town (1904-1930), a copy of the "Revised Ordinances of 1930," unnumbered ordinances throughout the rest of the town period (1931-1938), and city ordinances (1938-1971) which start a new numerical sequence. An assortment of resolutions (1916, 1958-1971) and proofs of publication is at the end of the series.
Research Note
Some city or town ordinances were used more than once; thus, researchers should make sure that they have the right "ordinance no. 2," for example.

Processing Note
Processed by Paul G. C. Smith in 1995. As received in the State Archives, the Town and City Ordinances were interfiled numerically, without regard to the fact that two separate sequences of ordinances were present (one for the town and one for the city). The separation of numerical sequences was undertaken to better reflect the probable original order and to facilitate easier research access to the material.
