Scope and Content

This series is a chronological list of the trademarks filed with the Secretary of State. Each registration consists of the mark number assigned, the date of filing, the name or device being registered, the registering body, and the product upon which the mark is to be used. Some registrations include proofs of publication (primarily from June 1931 to July 1936), the address of the registering body, and samples of the mark (up to July 1936).

Trademark applications from the Lieutenant Governor, Series 398, contain the documents relative to the process of trademark registration, such as the initial application and subsequent renewals.

Trademark index cards from the Lieutenant Governor, Series 20317, contain information similar to that found in the registers, but arranged alphabetically and for the years 1923 to 1984.

Gaps in Series

The series contains two large gaps in assigned numbers: from mark 2227 to mark 2400 and from mark 12000 to mark 21999. As no gap in the chronological order exists for these missing numbers, it is assumed that these number ranges were never assigned.

This series was archivally processed by Arlene Schmuland in 1998.

An index to applicant or company name, the trademark number assigned, and the product on which the trademark was to be used was created by Maren Peterson and Allen Guglielmotto in 2019-2020. The information may be searched within the volumes in the Digital Archives on the page level.
