Scope and Content

Warrants for the arrest of criminals were issued by the Governor's Office in response to the receipt of requisitions from other governors for the extradition of persons who had been accused of committing crimes in their states. The warrant directed the law enforcement official, usually a marshal or county sheriff to find and arrest the person named. Copies of these warrants were filed and recorded in the office of the Secretary of State, and this register contains the record copy. A separate register for recording warrants was not kept after statehood. In addition to the name of the criminal, the crime committed and the name of the agent authorized to receive the fugitive is listed.
