Series 29906Spring City (Utah) Watermaster's record
Dates: 1893-1916.
These records are housed in the Utah State Archives' permanent storage room.
Scope and Content
This series contains a ledger kept by the watermaster to track the amount of acreage owned along creeks, rivers, canals, ditches, and other waterways by residents of Spring City and the surrounding area. The record also tracks the taxes owed and amount paid on that acreage by landowners. The ledger contains such information as the names of all the waterways and the names of all the landowners who owned acreage on those waterways as well as the amount of acreage. Information related to taxes owed on the acreage include the landowner's name, the acreage, the amount owed, the amount paid, whether or not it was paid in full, and whether it was paid in cash, labor, or a combination of both. The front and back covers in the ledger as well as many of its blank pages contain math and equations likely noted by the watermaster or other city employee tracking totals owed to the city or paid by residents at the end of each year.
