Scope and Content
This series contains records kept by the post office tracking services it offered, namely money orders and post office boxes. One ledger in this series tracks domestic money orders and was kept by the postmaster. The ledger contains such information the amount received from domestic money orders, the numbers of the orders issued, the date of each summary recorded, and the total balance of the post office's money order account, as well as a record of any mistakes made in the accounting process. The second ledger in this series tracks post office box ownership and payment. The ledger contains such information as the box number, the name of the owner, the amount paid, and the date paid. This ledger is arranged numerically by post office box number and thereunder chronologically.
