Dates: 1908-
These records are housed in the Utah State Archives' permanent storage room.
Scope and Content
This series contains minutes for meetings of the Sandy City volunteer firemen. The first documented meeting was held 29 August 1908 for the purpose of organizing a permanent volunteer fire department for the city. Meetings were typically held twice a month and functioned as a kind of staff meeting for the fire department. The minutes include the date of the meeting, the number of members present, a summary of topics discussed, and the signatures of the chairman and secretary. Topics addressed in the meetings include election of officers, planning for social and fundraising events, training and instruction, approval of applications for new members, and participation in the state firemen's conventions. The first volume in the series also includes minutes for a meeting held 24 August 1921, minutes for a meeting of the Salt Lake Volunteer Firemen's Association from 8 December 1921, some financial records for the fire department, and several attendance rolls. Both the first and second volumes include a record of fires fought by the department.
