Series 28795Murray City School District (Utah) Utah materials files
Dates: ca. 1960-1965.
These records are housed in the Utah State Archives' permanent storage room.
Historical Note
An agency history is available.
Scope and Content
This series contains information and materials about Utah and its history collected and compiled by the school district as a resource to support the Utah history curriculum in the schools. The resources include books, pamphlets, and flyers outlining various aspects of Utah history, geography, industry, scenic attractions, and reclamation projects. Some of the information was apparently compiled and printed by the school district, but many of the items are publications from such entities as the Utah Tourist and Publicity Bureau and the Bureau of Land Management. The series constitutes a resource kit and includes an inventory of items in the kit and where copies of each item could be obtained. It appears that the series acted as a master file for resource kits that could be provided to teachers to assist them in teaching Utah history. In addition to the items listed in the inventory, the series also includes a number of other publications that were probably added after the inventory was compiled.
Arrangement
Generally arranged as listed in the included inventory list.
Custody History
The Murray City School District gave the records in this series to the Murray City Museum. Because the records did not relate directly to Murray City history, the Museum passed them on to the State Archives in December 2015.
Access Restrictions
This series is classified as Public.
Preferred Citation
Cite the Utah State Archives and Records Service, the creating agency name, the series title, and the series number.
Gaps in Series
The inventory included in the series lists a recording related to the This is the Place Monument and notes "See School Kit." The recording was not with the other items when the series came to the State Archives in 2015.
Processing Note
When this series came to the State Archives it contained three copies of most items in the series. During processing the the best-preserved copy of each item was maintained in the series, the second best copy of state or local government publications was transferred to a publication series for the appropriate agency, and the second copy of federal and private publications were given to the Utah State Historical Society. Any additional copies were discarded.
This series was archivally processed by Kelly Akin and Alan Barnett in February 2016.
