Scope and Content

This series contains lists of "male citizens subject to military duty" under state law. The lists are contained in books of pre-printed forms and were created by the County Assessor and ultimately filed with the County Clerk. The forms provide space to list the name of the person subject to military duty, his age, address or place of residence, post office, and nationality. Some of the books also include a total of the number of eligible persons for each community and for the whole county.

When the records were microfilmed some wildlife bounty records were mixed in with the militia lists. These records document the payment of bounties by the county for killing animals, such as coyotes, mountain lions, wolves, bears, sparrows, and gophers.

Arrangement

Roughly chronological by year, thereunder grouped by city or town.
