Scope and Content
This series contains copies of birth certificates held by the county clerk. The law required local registrars to make a copy of each birth certificate, identical to the original, which was to be kept in his office as the local record. He was then required to send the original certificates to the state registrar (Laws of Utah 1905, ch. 120, sect. 18). Apparently, the county clerk received a copy as well. This series contains a mixture of certificates, carbon copies of the birth certificate information, and birth data worksheets. Many of the birth certificates between 1917 and 1950 were carbon copies, which means the record contains the birth certificate information, but lacks the pre-printed form. For the years between 1951 and 1955, the series contains mostly birth data worksheets, which contained all the information of a birth certificate, but was not considered an official copy. These records include information about the child including, date of birth, name, sex, and race. Information about the parents includes names, birthplaces, occupations, residences, and age at time of child's birth.

This series is primarily classified as Exempt: Birth certificates are considered private for 100 years (Utah Code 26-2-22). The secondary classification is Public: Birth certificates that are older than 100 years are considered public (Utah Code 63G-2-310).
