Scope and Content
This series contains one criminal docket book created by the Commissioner of the United States Circuit Court. Under the 1887 Edmunds-Tucker Law, commissioners appointed by the Supreme Court were authorized to exercise jurisdiction over criminal matters in the district courts. The entries in this commissioner's docket are cases that involve the States of America vs. a defendant. Information includes the date, defendant's name, nature of crime, and information about warrants and subpoenas served and returned. Criminal cases in this docket involve theft, fornication, adultery, unlawful cohabitation, and arson.
