Scope and Content

The Utah Tourist and Publicity Council was created within the Industrial Commission in 1953 to publicize the scenic and tourist attractions of Utah and promote the tourist trade. The Council was to plan and conduct a program of information, advertising and publicity relating to the recreational, scenic, historic, highway, and tourist advantages and attractions of the State at large. They were to assist in the coordination of the activities of persons, firms, associations, corporations, and governmental agencies who were engaged in publicizing, developing, and promoting the state.

This series contains Council minutes from meetings with information pertaining to agency activities, finances, publications, films, and promotional activities. Also present are correspondence to the Council concerning advertising in magazines and newspapers, as well as copies of magazines, newsletters, newspapers, pamphlets, and press releases.
