Scope and Content
The first "Governor's Prayer Breakfast" meeting was held in 1962, during Governor Clyde's second administration. Prayer breakfasts were started with the intent of providing spiritual and moral guidance to prominent community members of Utah. Lists of breakfast attendees were retained in order to facilitate the organization of the following year's event. This series contains invitations to prayer breakfasts, lists of invitees, prayer breakfast programs, minutes of the Governor's Prayer Breakfast Committee (on which the Governor Matheson's press secretary served) and related correspondence for prayer breakfasts held during Matheson's first term. This series also includes prayer breakfast programs from Governor Rampton's terms. The records were preserved by Matheson and his staff.
