Scope and Content

These minutes record the meetings of the Castle Gate Relief Fund Committee, a committee appointed by Governor Mabey to oversee the distribution of subscribed money after the Castle Gate mine explosion on March 8, 1924. The minutes begin with the first meeting in April 1924 and end October 1935. Also included are the committee by-laws submitted to the committee on June 27, 1924, a chart of organization, and a chart showing course of applications for relief.

The minutes relate to committee business. Committee members in attendance were named, minutes were read, reports were read concerning expenses. Individual cases were discussed. All were submitted for approval.

The by-laws include committee organization, procedures for meetings, duties of the officers, subcommittee organization, attorney, auditor, application for relief, and finances.

The chart of organization describes the duties of each committee officer. The chart of applications for relief traces the receipt, processing and filing of applications.
