Scope and Content

Agreements with performers, correspondence, financial records, the jubilee program, and reports of the Semi-Centennial Commission make up this series. The records were used in the general administration and management of the commission as well as in planning various events and programs.

The report provides an overview of the activities of the commission, complete with a financial statement listing individuals and businesses supporting the commission through subscriptions. A comprehensive list of events scheduled during the week-long jubilee is included in the program.

Arrangement

Alphabetical by document type thereunder by subject. The contents of individual folders are arranged chronologically.

Related Records

Book of the Pioneers from the Semi-Centennial Commission, Series 14107, describes some jubilee activities and includes a brief history of the Semi-Centennial Commission.

Custody History

Prior to its dissolution in 1898, the commission deposited its records in the archives of the state. The twelfth Utah legislature in 1917 designated the State Historical Society of Utah as custodian of all records of historic value. The newly independent Utah State Archives retained custody of the records following its removal from the Historical Society in 1969.

Access Restrictions

This series is classified as Public.

Preferred Citation

Cite the Utah State Archives and Records Service, the creating agency name, the series title, and the series number.

Gaps in Series

With the exception of the minutes of the final commission meeting (which are pasted inside the front cover of the ledger) minutes of commission meetings are unavailable.

Processing Note

Because of the low volume of the holdings, all records were consolidated into a single series. Archival processing was completed in February 2000 by W. Glen Fairclough, Jr. The date of filming of the Official Report and Financial Statement and Official Programme (1899) is unknown. The balance of the series subsequently was microfilmed in August 2002.
