Scope and Content

This series contains two reports pertaining to Utah's participation in the World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago at Jackson Park, May 1-October 30, 1893. The exposition was a commemmoration of the 400th anniversary of Columbus landing in America. Displays and exhibit material was shipped from Utah to Chicago in early 1893 and the Utah building was erected on an assigned lot to showcase Utah including that highlighted mineral wealth, agriculture, education, irrigation, archaeology, and women.

The first report is a hardbound volume published in 1894 entitled "Utah at the World's Columbian Exposition." This report was compiled by the Utah World's Fair Commission to be a history of the Commission and document the work accomplished in behalf of Utah at the Exposition.

The second report is a 4-page typescript copy of a report submitted by the Utah World's Fair Commission to Governor Heber M. Wells dated February 19, 1896. This document details the publication of and expenses related to producing the aforementioned 1894 report.
